Solid Rock Ballad

Feels like it would have lyrics.

So how exactly is this done with a keyboard/what keyboard do you use? I have two Yamahas that might be able to do something like this, though I don't think their guitar voices are quite that good.

Nightwasp responds:

Thanks much!
The keyboard i use is a yamaha - The Tyros 2. Google it if you want.

damn well done, sir

Not much I can add to what's already been said.

I can however, suggest you do more! Beethoven's 5th could be quite the death metal song, and/or you could do a Queen-like medley anthem of songs like flight of the bumblebee, ode to joy, ect.

Nightwasp responds:

Wow, nice ideas there! Thanks for the inspiration.

I like the beeps 'n boops at 2:59

good all around... takes a bit to get going though, and it never really pulls a good punch, it's more like one long roundhouse.

...if that analogy makes any sense. but for instance, in Fairy Tales, you have the main theme alternating between the synth and bells, then both, and the You just fo-fo-fo-found it! and it's like YEAH!

nothing really like that here. Vocals work well, though.

Yeah, basically nothing really stands out. it's got a good (saw?) melody, but it isn't really utilized anywhere, except for maybe the cutoff filter at about 1:30, and that doesn't really blow me away.

The important thing is that you're making music. :D

Nothing I want you to review yet, but I might have some piano musics coming along...

Thanks for the review man :D

I won't touch on the mastering

I like the transition from the ambient intro to the main synth and bells.

lot's of good composition things, hops around quickly, good pacing. You seem to like claps... I don't like them so much, but I guess they work. try finding better clap sounds. FLs percussion presets aren't very good. I haven't tried this, but I hypothesize using 3ish claps at the same time, or alternating and such, would improve it...

maybe. Dunno.

nice weird, spacy, low stuff around 3:00

okay, 4:09, claps work there. very nice.

don't overuse that deep drum hit though. I classify it as a "Hit" like orchestra hits and stuff. Generally you want to keep those for accents, not a base rythm or meoldy.

I like the piano, but it sounds out of place when it's left too much by itself.

I like how busy it gets, but you have to weigh busy-ness with mastering and levelling.

I ilke the bells at 5:55

definitely great, epic ideas. I definitely want you to post a mastered version of this. then I'd download it.

hey, look at that, good outro. :D

Joobles responds:

Hey, thanks for the review again! I'll try out that clapping idea to see if it works. I'm actualy getting Anima-theory to do the mastering for the song, once I fix all the composition problems, and figure out how to send a 40megabyte compressed file over the internet = P If you could, would you review my latest submission, Western Gun? I would realy appreciate it :D
Thanks for the criticism, and possible future download!!

well now my old review seems obsolete.

though, same thing about the drum fill... well, not much I can say that Anima hasn't already.

You're good at percussion, I can tell you're in drumline. i have a friend who does drumline and learns theory. he's good at like, crazy progressions and keys, and percussion is amazing.

this is definitely better than the first. again, intro and begining of the synth could be tighter. I like the tempo increase.

but yeah, I'm sure you've moved on to more songs, so not much more to say here.

~Qwerty

Joobles responds:

Thanks : D I plan on redoing this song...eventually. Most likely put singing into it. But thanks for the review, it's really appreciated!

yay for anima theory

the intro is too differentiated from the beginning of the song.

the beats of the bells don't seem to line up well with the main synth. or at least they just sound conflicting.

good job on percussion. I'd suggest not having a part completely percussion. keep a pad in there with the basic chord progression. maybe with a fitler on it to subdue it, but yeah.

perc alone isn't terrible, but are you writing something for drumline or for techno?

the claps get annoying, and probably could be quieter.

As negative as this review has been, this is a decent song. could have some improvements, but it's impressive for a first song.

One of your very best

The drumwork in this is simply amazing.

really feeling the happy hardcore feel.

and... I didn't realize until just now, but that synth sounds suspciiously alot like Silence... is this the unofficial Silence V?

not that I can speak for Joobles, but it sounds like he means that all the people in his drumline (band for percussion and bells) learned it and play it alot. something.

Anima-Theory responds:

Its not the same Synth. In this I used a 3xOSC and in SilenceV I used a Z3TA and a Sytrus. SO no, they are different :P

I love happy hardcore music, it's just it's hard to write original music in that genre.

Yeah, I don't know what Joobles is talking about :P

Thanks for the review :D

Anima

wonderful main riff

the filters are great, sliding around with the main theme.

ahh, trusty ol' bells, never let ya down.

Good outro on this one. filters work well.

Anima-Theory responds:

Thanks for the review man :D

Anima

repeat probably whatever I said in my review of II

love the synth. love the filters

sounds like an inspirational poster in audio format.

5/5, not much more to say. Silence is golden. HA!

Headbangin' sweetness

love the weird techno thing that sounds like "woooooooow"

yay for bells! excellent strange juxtaposition between that and the DnB stuff going on.

love the snares at 1:20

pretty good outro, it just sort of sneaks up on ya.

~Qwerty

Anima-Theory responds:

Yeah I loved the dirty snare sound as well, and for some reason, I cannot for the life of me replicate that same snare distortion again. :(

Thanks for the review,

Anima

I make cool Music with FL8. sometimes it's more classical, sometimes it's more industrial. Go figure. No, actually, go listen to it and review it!
