Optimistic.

very optimistic up to 1:15, after that it gets more serious, perhaps tragedy strikes.

is this supposed to be for an actual game, or is it just that kind of song?

Not to sure on the outro, but it does it's job.

Sounding good!

I tend to write as if I *was* writing for a game - I find it helps to keep a focus.

That said, this one wasn't written for anything in particular. Sometimes they work better that way, different people can pull different meanings out of them to suit themselves. :)

As always, thanks for commenting.

Lovely. Absoloutely Lovely.

I can't quite place what game this sounds like it's from, besides generic Final fantasy, of course i've only played through FF1 and FF9. :\

Drums worked very well. I like the strings holding their own around 2:00

EQ seems fine. It's a lot easier with quieter songs, because it's a lot easier to avoid clipping. The Bass could perhaps be louder in 2:40ish. Maybe even just throw it down an octave. seems okay the way it is, too, though.

Love them bells.

It loops practically seamlessly. it would probably be a bad outro if it were just a song, but I'm sure you could easily write a solo bell outro if you wanted to.

It's based on one of the tracks from FF7 that's used in a few spots. I won't say where because I don't trust myself not to leave spoilers.

The Bell/organ hybrid sound they used in that track is pretty distinctive. It's one of Rolands sound banks, and if they used the same kit for their other games, it wouldn't surprise me if it turns up in their other games too. :)

So of course, when I realised I had the same sound bank installed I knew what I had to do... >_>

That said, thanks for the review(s). I'll look into the bass bit and see if I can bring that out a little. :P

Doesn't seem to be much clipping

but then again it's very quiet. Some of the perc seems to take over at this volume, because it's at a higher frequency. As far as over-doing it it seems good and varied.

I gotta say though, working with just MIDI seems kind of limiting to me. I've not done much with it myself, but I'm fairly certain programs like Fruity Loops, Acid, Reason, and so on give you more options, if not just in the effects department.

the writing of it looks fine, but it doesn't really 'sound' good. I guess.

I had a look into FL following someone elses suggestion not too long ago - it turns out that my machines too old to get fruity up and running. Just hangs as its trying to set itself up. :(

I'll look into the other two. :)

The comment on the drums is interesting though - I actually turned them up as someone else said they were too weak - and the only way I could do that without clipping was to make everything else a little quieter. :/

I'll turn them back down and wait till I get some more feedback on this I think. :)

Edit : Re-render complete and uploaded. Thanks~!

Fun

Doesn't seem to be much bass though... The piano feels kind of quiet, especially once the guitar comes in. The strings work perfectly, though.

I like the beats, but you might look into better voices for the drums.

I was going to say how good the ending was, but then it looped and I realized it was just the intro again :P But it works, I was afraid you were leaving it at one piano chord, but the other 3 really add to it.

When you've got the drums slowed down, and the guitar going, it's got a lot of power. All this piece needs is some technical refinement.

Yeah, I always need another set of ears so I can finalize a song really. Im glad you (re-decided?) you liked the ending even though its like the opening, but that was my intention really, ha ha.
Thanx a lot for the review, your honesty is much appreciated. I just might re-do this song.

Video-gamey

I quite like this. It's got some clipping issues, and could certainly use a bit.better mastering.

For the end, I wouldn't just let that one string chord fade out, I might let it do the progression on the strings, or at least resolve to another chord, otherwise it feels like the energy just disappears.

I like the beat, and the voices are wonderful, sliding in and out of each other. I definitely like the one that comes in at :41. Very video-gamey, especially the way it was used. This could easily be music to a level in a platformer, or environment music for a point and clicky adventure.

Thanks for the comment, yeah I should look for a good mastering tutorial.

It's taken me awhile to grasp the concept of electronic music, for what reason Idk.

Must be partially my classical piano background heh.

It's funny since only 2 days ago I discover automation clipping.

Any who I'll prolly try to build on it tomorrow, and see where I can get.

Thanks again.

Good Intro, Good Outro

Middle doesn't excite me as much. Might just be the source material.

First minute is excellet at building things up. Love after that it seems to get a bit repetitive.

Thanks for the comments. Greatly appreciated!

Excellent instrumentation.

all the instruments, from the guitar, to the oragny/piano thing around 1:45, to the wondeful strings at the end.

the main theme is repeated a bit much, but it is pop, and it's nice hearing it in different instruments.

Solid Rock Ballad

Feels like it would have lyrics.

So how exactly is this done with a keyboard/what keyboard do you use? I have two Yamahas that might be able to do something like this, though I don't think their guitar voices are quite that good.

Thanks much!
The keyboard i use is a yamaha - The Tyros 2. Google it if you want.

damn well done, sir

Not much I can add to what's already been said.

I can however, suggest you do more! Beethoven's 5th could be quite the death metal song, and/or you could do a Queen-like medley anthem of songs like flight of the bumblebee, ode to joy, ect.

Nightwasp responds:

Wow, nice ideas there! Thanks for the inspiration.

I like the beeps 'n boops at 2:59

good all around... takes a bit to get going though, and it never really pulls a good punch, it's more like one long roundhouse.

...if that analogy makes any sense. but for instance, in Fairy Tales, you have the main theme alternating between the synth and bells, then both, and the You just fo-fo-fo-found it! and it's like YEAH!

nothing really like that here. Vocals work well, though.

Yeah, basically nothing really stands out. it's got a good (saw?) melody, but it isn't really utilized anywhere, except for maybe the cutoff filter at about 1:30, and that doesn't really blow me away.

The important thing is that you're making music. :D

Nothing I want you to review yet, but I might have some piano musics coming along...

Thanks for the review man :D

I make cool Music with FL8. sometimes it's more classical, sometimes it's more industrial. Go figure. No, actually, go listen to it and review it!
